Six Unremarkable Things About Me

here. I want to play "Six Unremarkable Things About Me", too. I've had a remarkable week but noting to say here on my blog.

1. When I buy new shoes, I don't wear them immediately. I let the new shoes "season" in my closet for a few days, then I put them on.

2. I write fan notes thanking authors of books I enjoy. I don't hear back from most, but that doesn't matter to me.

3. I use a silverplate Victorian sugar bowl to hold the pens and pencils on my desk. I bought it at an estate sale long ago. The bowl doesn't have a lid. Perfect for pencils, pens, scissors and a lone paintbrush.

4. I travel the same route to go to Little Church. I love this drive! People suggest alternate routes without success.

5. I love the smell of fresh turned earth.

6. I've taught myself how to do most household chores without "thinking" about the chores. I zen out and think about words, ideas and people instead.

1.) What first tells you that Summer is here?
Increased heat, humidity and the smell of sun screen.

2.) Name your five of your favorite distinctively Summer habits or customs.
***eating snow cones
***grilling
***enjoying the children being out of school
***working in the yard pruning, weeding and planting
***wearing linen clothes and sandals


3.) What is your favorite smell of Summer?
Blooming magnolias and gardenias, warm salt air, grilling


4.) What is your favorite taste of Summer?
Homemade cooked custard fresh peach ice cream, good red yard tomatoes


5.) Favorite Summer memory?
As a child, going to swimming lessons in cold water, eating ice cream cones.
As an adult, going camping with friends, going to summer camp as a counselor.
As a parent, vacations and sitting outside on the back porch, under the ceiling fans with Mr. C.

6.) Extreme heat or extreme cold? Which would you choose and why?
Please! I want better choices than these!
My favorite weather is cool mornings with warm mid-days then cool again at night.
Like at Montreat in the N.C. mountains in summertime.


7.) What books do you plan to read for the season?

Greg Illes newest book
The next Alexander McCall Smith No.1 Ladies Detective Agency book in that series.
His next Isabelle Dalohousy book and if he has another new 44 Scotland Street book, I want to read that.
Jesus for President
Finish the "working" stack of books next to my bed.

8.) How does the Summer affect your faith? Is it a hindrance or an ally?
Hurricane season is emotional for me. I'm just now seeing things look better after Katrina, almost three years ago. We've got folks in FEMA trailers still, business are struggling to get going again and our landscape is so very different. In the past, I got through hurricane season with Oreos and Cheetos. Now, I know what horror storms bring. I'll be leaning on God again this year for strength and hope.

3. a Kate Spade Rutherford Circle red mug from the local salvage store

4. Walter Anderson pottery mug from the Peter Anderson Festival in Ocean Springs

5. White mug, plain but lovely to hold

6. Blue Fiesta Mug in that odd blue glaze not dark or light

7. A Catzilla mug with tuxedo and ginger cats

8 Random Facts about Me

Tagged by several of you. Here I go...

1. Even as a child I valued solitude so I spent time hiding under the dining room table. That table is in our home now but I'm too tall to hide under it.

2. I detested yard work for years, now I love it. You should see how we've fixed up since the hurricane!

3. I seldom wear costume jewelry, not because I'm snooty, but because I find sterling, 14kt. etc. at garage sales for less than costume jewelry prices.

4. Our home survived Camille in 1969, Katrina in 2005, two house fires and being flooded. It's great to live in a Garp-ed home!

5. I asked Mr. C. to marry me. He told me, "I'll think about it." I'd known him less than 6 weeks. I knew he was a Prize the first time I saw him.

6. I've been questioned about a murder by a representative of New Scotland Yard.

7. I have perfect dancer turn-out. Lot of good this does me.

8. I have done the following while preaching: burst out crying, burst out laughing, sneezed, coughed, choked, snorted and considered fainting. My listeners are greatful I didn't do all these at once.
