My radiologist (a friend) told me that local Irish women do not go to pubs and that I will not be welcomed until I speak and show myself to be an American. Interesting!
I will spend time in pubs next week in Ireland. I will be a pub visiting, ale drinking woman.

I intend to drink ale. I will drink ale. I will be cautious because I am an infrequent drinker and don't enjoy alky hall much, but I will drink ale. I won't be responsible for driving and I'll be in a safe group. And, I won't overdo. I wouldn't mention this but I am not a social drinker or closet drinker. People think I'm being pious but it's a personal taste kind of thing rather than a discipline.

Pictured is the Fitzgerald Bar from the fabulous BBC series, Ballykissangel.
Put the series in your Netflix que.

I hear we will have cool temperatures in Ireland. So looking forward to cool weather!

Soberly,

St. Casserole

Oh, I so wish I could work out a way to get to Ireland to see you...it's really frustrating that you'll be so much closer but still out of range.
Just have a wonderful time, OK?
Hugs xx

Enjoy your ale and have a most wonderful time. While you drink your ale in Ireland, I will be sipping wine in South Africa (hopefully!!).
Savour the cool weather and the green, green, green of the Emerald Isle.

Our bookclub just finished reading Whoredom in Kimmage - by Rosemary Mahoney - and it explores the lives of Irish Women - most of the time Mahoney spent in the pubs. VERY INTERESTING! when is it that you are leaving?

My observations and the anecdotal evidence of my inlaws (all Irish or recent immigrants) do not support the opinion of your friend. Of course, as soon as you identify yourself as American, they will welcome you even more whole-heartedly. There are few places friendlier than a good Pub. Have fun, and enjoy your pints!

I will bet that your new Irish friends will buy you pints in the pub! I look forward to your description of the flavor. I always wonder if the Trader Joe's ale tastes the same.

Have the best trip.
