Several Things

*First, good pickings early this morning at estate sales. I have a new rug for my study. Good thing I found one because the stop-gap World Market rug gets on my nerves. Bad news! The Garage Antiques on 25th Street in Manhattan is rumored to be closing in November. Double Rats! I've shopped the Garage each and every November for the past 10 years. My favorite sterling flatware dealer and vintage jewelry sellers table there.

*The Johnbell conference at Jesus Meets Hogwarts ended Friday. Our travel home went well. While many on the BE cruise felt the ship for days after, I hear Johnbell's voice in my head today. He is a wonderful speaker.
Go see here for Johnbell's understanding of private worship in a public space. Thanks, Ice Flue!

*Dubby the kitten is biting people and cats with tiny nippy teeth. No one knows how to make him stop. What is the gentlest way to get this kitty to change his behavior?

I missed you all. Glad to be home with my people. Looking forward to worship tomorrow with my People.

St. Casserole

Garage sales aren't going well this month. The cold weather, rain and general January angst keep sellers from putting junk in the garage to sell.

2007 ! A great year for junk!

Here's what I want to find in 2008 or after:

sterling or 14kt. sewing thimble charm bracelet

Bobcat

Just so you know,

St. Casserole

Update: A bobcat is one person driving digger, mover etc. industrial equipt. thingies.

Things I found in 2007 at garage sales:
sterling water pitcher
white metal topped kitchen table very old and in good condition
real Kate Spade purse
M.A. Hadley bean pot
15 pieces of Henry Watson pottery
William Sonoma tablecloth
framed black and white photos of old men
various pieces for my religious collection like plaster saint statues, menorahs
vintage fabric
large cutwork vintage tablecloth
I mention the name brand stuff only to let you know what's out there. The Henry Watson stuff is among my favorites because it's fun to use and I got so many pieces.
All these things were very cheap or I wouldn't have bought them. If you search long enough you can find anything for a low price.

I look over the classified section of our local news on Friday mornings. Any estate or garage sales of interest going on this weekend?

When I began this blog, I thought I'd write about my interest in "material recycling", ie. junking.
It may be fun to find junk but it seems silly to write about it.

If I reflected on the travels of each antique piece through the first owner to me, or why this tertiary market interests me, perhaps it would be fun for you to read.

Maybe I feel silly writing about going through junk. Many people can't tolerate the idea of "old" things, others don't want anything but new. Then there are those whose material wants are so few that the idea of acquiring junk "just because I like to look at it" is repugnant.

Hello. My name is St. Casserole and I am a Junker.
