I'm teaching a lay ministry program in the Spring on pastoral care.
Can you suggest a basic primer on pastoral care for a varied group of adults? Many are educated, as many are high school graduates only. All are active in church.
Thanks, I need suggestions!

The UCC has a resource, "Called to Care," that you can download here:

Let me make that a link you can click.
One that I am familar with is A Pastor in Every Pew: Equipping Laity for Pastoral Care by Leroy Howe. It is used in a few CLP programs.
I also have notebook of a program that the church where I did my internship used to train the Session for pastoral care. I would be happy to make a copy for you and send it to you, if you would like.
Grace and peace,
Lydia
I second the Leroy Howe book. I had to look it up and be sure it was the one I was thinkinng of.
I've used Christian Caregiving: A Way of Life both as a class participant and as a leader (they also sell a leader guide). It's connected to Stephen Ministry.
I've used Crisis Ministry by Dan Bagby - Smyth & Helwys publishing, http://www.helwys.com/books/bagby.html. It's a good, easily read book. I trained some laity with it.
Fabulous! Thank you for your suggestions! Lydia, I'd love to hear from you. Songbird, I downloaded a copy of the UCC resource. I'll check out the other two books.
Thanks!
