Whatever Grace does, I do. I am of the "Monkey See Monkey Do" School of Life, and Quotidian Grace is a favorite of mine.
Quotidian Grace: Gospel Birthday Meme

Here's the meme: take your birthday and look up the passages which correspond with that date in each of the four Gospels.

Here's mine for May 19:

Matthew 5:19 Whoever refuses to obey any command and teaches other people not to obey that command will be least important in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys the commands and teaches other people to obey them will be great in the kingdom of heaven.

Mark 5:19 But Jesus would not let him. He said, "Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you and how he has had mercy on you."

Luke 5:19 But becaue there were so many people there, they could not find a way in. So they wentup on the roof and lowered the man on his mat through the ceiling into the middle of the crowd right before Jesus.

John 5:19 But Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing alone. The son does only what he sees the Father doing because the Son does whatever the Father does.

The first and last of the four passages have to do with authority; the second and third have to do with healing.
Can you identify the story of Mark 5:19? Points for identifying the translation I use here.

Thankful for each of you,

I'm not cooking the turkey, either. Isn't it great? So I had time to look up Mark 5:19.

It's the story of Jesus driving out the demons from the man in Genasares and sending them into the herd of pigs. The pigs then rushed into the lake and drowned.

This is the NIV translation. I recognized that without looking it up since we're using it for Bible in 90 Days.

This reminds me of a true story. Once when I was teaching a Sunday School class we were discussing this passage. Two women in the class couldn't believe that "Jesus was so mean to those poor innocent pigs". Really.

I pointed out that since Jesus was a Jew that perhaps this reflected the Jewish belief that pigs were "unclean". They replied "Jesus wouldn't have believed that." LOL.

You know that you are one of my favorites, too. Have a great Thanksgiving!

Grace, thanks for taking time away from your turkey preparation (are we great or what???) to leave a comment.
The translation is NCV the New Century Version. I don't know much about it but I found a small sized leather bound copy which is perfect for my car Bible. Drives me nuts to recall a scripture and not have a Bible nearby. And, I use the car Bible when I wait and wait and wait in traffic, car-pooling and waiting for whatever.

NCV? Never heard of it. But if you'll compare these verses with the NIV version you'll see that in this instance they are exactly the same.

BTW, I'm impressed you have a car Bible!

I could see you two sitting by the fire - nattering away - and I loved it :)

my birthday is 29 Nov in europe we write 29/11 which means there's nothing in Matthew, Mark, Luke or John! or any book of the New Testament

lol

so back to our roots, the OT :)
Gen 29:11
Then Jacob kissed Rachel and began to weep aloud (for joy)

:)

But if I take 11/29 well I get my favourite passage in Matthew 'Take my yoke upton you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your soul'

John 11:29 fits it beautifully
When Mary heard this she got up quickly and went to him

whereas Mark and Luke are quite different!

Mark 11:29
Jesus replied- I will ask you one question. Answer me and I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things"

Luke 11:29
As the crowds increased Jesus said This is a wicked generation It asks for a miraculous sign but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah

These are NIV - very popular here in europe and ideal in our congregation where there are few native English speakers.

be blessed
:)

QG's student's take on the pigs over the cliff passage reminds me of my kids' reaction to the wise and foolish maidens story. They thought the wise maidens were mean not to share their oil with the girls who had run out.
